Master Classes and Lectures of the Mozart Music Competition Unveiled; Renowned Teachers Gave Open Lessons to Prize Winners

he master classes and lectures that would go on for three days began on September 23rd at the Mozart Concert Hall of Zhuhai Huafa & CPAA Grand Theatre. Three judges of the violin competition, Eleanor Hope, Eduard Schmieder and Itzhak Rashkovsky, appeared on stage and took the audience on a tour to explore the world of professional classical musicians. The audience were carried away by their talks and applauded enthusiastically.

The famous agent Eleanor Hope, and the renowned educator Professor Eduard Schmieder gave two excellent lectures respectively: “A conversation with young musicians --- preparing for a musical career, stage persona, etc.” and “Comparisons of major schools of violin playing”. With her 10 plus years of rich professional experience, Eleanor Hope answered questions from the audience regarding how to pursue a musical career, in the hope to enlighten ambitious conservatory students and young musicians.

The world-renowned Russian-Israeli violinist and educator Itzhak Rashkovsky hosted a master class with a rich agenda but no less humor. First, the young and talented violinist Antoni Ingielewicz, who won the 2nd prize of Group A of the first Zhuhai Mozart International Music Competition for Young Musicians, performed a piece, followed by Professor Rashkovsky’s one-on-one teaching on techniques. The professor also gave impromptu demonstrations, and shared unique opinions on violin playing, the interpretation of Mozart’s music, etc., amply widening the horizons of the audience.

The correspondent learned that, as part of the important series events of the Competition, the master classes and lectures will continue until September 25th. There would be three events every day starting from 3 PM, including two lectures and one master class. The judges of the violin contest would act as event guests.

On the afternoon of September 24th, Weidong Tong, Professor of Violin and Vice Director of Orchestral Instruments Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, will host a master class at the Mozart Concert Hall, giving theory lessons and offering expert opinions on the playing by violin learners. Two master violinists, Harald Herzl and Paul Roczek, will give lectures on their respective field of study.

One day later, Professor Min Kim, a top-notch violinist, chamber musician, educator and music director from South Korea, will host his master class to give one-on-one teaching to contestants. Two lectures named “Comparison between original scores and current versions of Mozart’s violin concertos” and “The Butterfly Lovers – China’s most well-known violin concerto” will be given by the famous violin educator Petru Munteanu and violinist Lina Yu respectively. As the performer of the debut performance of “The Butterfly Lovers”, Lina Yu will play the beautiful tunes that have been with her for the past fifty years.
