2016-11-29

The 2nd Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians kicks off with the opening ceremony held in Zhuhai Huafa & CPAA Grand Theater on Nov 29, 2016. The Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians, held every two year, is the only multi-instrument youth classical music competition named after Wolfgang A. Mozart. The Competition aims to discover new talented young musicians from all over the world and promote their further creative development.

Ms. ZHONG Ming, Vice General Manager of Zhuhai Huafa Group, the Organizer of this Competition, noted that this Competition, one of Zhuhai's new cultural symbols, strengthened the city's soft power and its global influences; and that the Huafa Group would spare no effort to organize the 2nd Competition, and was looking forward to the coming of global phiharmonics.

Ms. Sarah WEDL-WILSON, Deputy Chancellor of University Mozarteum Salzburg, spoke highly of Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians, pointing out that as a talent scout, this Competition was able to discover tomorrow's exceptional personalities and helped them step onto future stages.

In addition to prizes, winners of the Competition may have an easier access to world-class palace of music. HE Ziyu, winner of Violin Group B in the 1st Competition, brought "1715 'Schneiderhan' Stradivari" violin provided by J & A Beare Ltd. to Zhuhai, and performed at the information session. Having won the Zhuhai Competition, Ziyu also won some further competitions this year, the 12th Mozart Competition in Salzburg and this year's Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists. Particularly, Ziyu has become the youngest winner of the Mozart Competition in Salzburg since 1975. Due to his win in the Menuhin Competition, Ziyu then has been entitled to "1715 'Schneiderhan' Stradivari", a 301-year-old violin. In 2017, Ziyu is to make his debut with Wiener Philharmoniker as well as conductor Ádám Fischer.

Paul Roczek, Artistic Director of the Violin Competition, commented that the 1st Competition was a music feast, with truly exceptional competitors. The upcoming 2nd Competition re-divides the age group and hopes to attract far more talented young musicians. It is expected that this Competition provides philharmonics with new starting point and direction in their future development.

The Information Session ended in the singing of Zhuhai Children's Chorus. The song was filled with hopes, with Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians Organizing Committee's expectation that music talents will gather together in Zhuhai to celebrate Mozart and music.
