One of the most sought-after violin teachers in Europe Friedemann Eichhorn is professor of violin at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar and Artistic Director of the Kronberg Academy. His students have won numerous prizes in international competitions and hold positions in orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, various German radio orchestras, Deutsche Oper to name but a few. In 2023/24 seven of his students have won concertmaster positions in European orchestras.
Friedemann Eichhorn is Artistic Director of the International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists in Weimar and frequently serves as jury member in numerous international competitions such as Leopold Mozart Augsburg, Bach Leipzig, Zhuhai Mozart, The Global Music Education League Violin Competition Beijing, Sendai Japan and others.
As a violin soloist Friedemann Eichhorn collaborates with many leading orchestras, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Symphonies of Munich and Hamburg, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie and many others. He has performed under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, Sir Antonio Pappano and the late Yehudi Menuhin.
A longtime recording artist for Naxos, Hänssler classic and other labels Friedemann Eichhorn has recorded a wide solo and chamber music repertoire on more than 30 CDs, including the world premiere recordings of the 13 violin concertos of Pierre Rode. A strong advocate of contemporary music Friedemann Eichhorn has given world premieres of Fazil Say‘s Violin Concerto No.2 „Spring Mornings in the days of quarantine“ and the Violin Sonata No.2 „Mount Ida“. Together with Evgeny Kissin and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt Friedemann Eichhorn has played the German premiere of Evgeny Kissin‘s piano trio. Currently Mr. Eichhorn works on a 5 CD cycle of all works for violin and orchestra by Alfred Schnittke, with the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie and Valentin Uryupin.
As a founding member of both the Gropius Quartett Berlin and the Phaeton Piano Trio Friedemann Eichhorn tours internationally and every year in USA and Canada.
Friedemann Eichhorn studied violin with Valery Gradow at the Mannheim University of Music, with Alberto Lysy at the Menuhin Academy in Switzerland and with Margaret Pardee at the Juilliard School New York. Apart from that he received a PhD in musicology from the University of Mainz, Germany.
Friedemann Eichhorn published numerous articles in journals and encyclopedias and edits sheet music of violin works with his fingerings and bowings for G. Henle Verlag and Schott Verlag. He as well serves as Artistic consultant for the Henle Library app. Friedemann Eichhorn plays the Jean Baptiste Vuillaume violin „Ex Huberman“ from 1856.
