Katarina Gurska is a pianist, educator, and entrepreneur born in the former Czechoslovakia. After completing her university studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, she moved to Madrid, where she currently resides and has developed a career spanning more than forty years.
Throughout her career, she has championed an innovative educational model grounded in academic excellence and artistic rigour.
In 1985, driven by her passion for music and her commitment to nurturing new talent, she founded the institution that bears her name with the aim of creating a comprehensive educational structure capable of supporting the highest levels of musical qualification and professional specialization. Under her leadership, and with the collaboration of a highly prestigious teaching faculty, the institution has experienced sustained growth. It has obtained official recognition at all educational levels, from elementary and professional studies to bachelor’s Degree higher artistic music education and has pioneered Spain’s first official master’s degrees in advanced musical specialization and professional development.
She is President of the Foundation and CEO of the KATARINAGURSKA Group, which integrates the different entities of the project. These include Enseñanza Musical KG (EMKG), which offers elementary and professional music education programs levels, and Centro Superior KG (CSKG), which provides higher and postgraduate degrees. The Group is also in the process of opening a new space in Madrid, KG LAB, which aims to become a benchmark for new forms of multidisciplinary performing arts.
In 2019, under the umbrella of her Foundation, she promoted the creation of the Institute for Artistic Research, which hosts the Doctoral Artistic Research Training (DART) Program, the first doctoral level in applied music research and cutting-edge multidisciplinary artistic research. This doctoral program is developed in collaboration with the University of Valladolid and international partners, reinforcing the project's focus on research and innovation.
Alongside her teaching and executive responsibilities, Katarina Gurska leads numerous initiatives through the Foundation to promote cultural dissemination and music education. These include scholarship programs, awards for artistic excellence, and social integration projects, all of which facilitate access to high-level training for young musicians each year and strengthen music’s role in social well-being.
Her cultural activity also encompasses the organisation and sponsorship of festivals, artistic events, and free-access concert series, as well as the creation of the Real Sitio Symphony Orchestra, composed of young performers. Her work has made a decisive contribution to enriching the cultural life of multiple regions and has helped strengthen Spain’s national artistic community.
Her legacy is defined by a lifelong dedication to pedagogy and an unwavering commitment to culture and artistic excellence, firmly establishing her as a leading figure in music education in Spain.
