Young Music Talents Gathering in Zhuhai Grand Opening of the 3rd Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians

A concert titled “Meet the Baroques” at Zhuhai Huafa CPAA Grand Theatre opened the 3rd Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians in the evening of September 10th. The Competition invited Salzburg Chamber Soloists under Lavard Skou-Larsen as music director to play in the concert and in the following competition. Concert started with Vivaldi’s Concerto for Strings in G major, RV 151, with the orchestra’s bright and rich sound demonstrating its “Salzburg quality”.  

 

As the first soloist of the concert, violinist Shihan Wang who won the first prize of Group A in the 2nd Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians played the famous Vivaldi Violin Concerto in E major, RV 269, known as “Spring” from “Four Seasons”, then violinist Chloe Chua from Singapore who won the third prize of Group A in the previous competition played the “Winter” concerto (RV 297 in F minor), their performances demonstrated their achievements in the last two years after the previous competition, and won great cheers and applause from the audiences.

 

The last piece in the first half of the concert is Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins in B minor, with soloists Chloe Chua, Shihan Wang and Miyu Kitsuwa who have won prizes from the previous competition, and Mingxuan Su as the special guest soloist, who just won the second prize of junior section in the 14th International Wieniawski Young Violinist Competition. The performance with different personal styles yet tacit cooperation by the four young soloists culminated in the first half of the concert.

 

The second half of the concert featured two special concertos - J. S. Bach’s Concerto for 3 Pianos in D minor (BWV 1063) and Concerto for 4 Pianos in A minor (BWV 1065), with soloists U Chun Lam, Pyotr Akulov, Yanyan Bao and Yichen Yu who are also prize winners from the 2nd Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians. It is a rare chance for these two concertos to be performed live, and the performance of the 4 soloists were beyond expectation and won enthusiastic cheers from the audiences, successfully closed the opening concert of the 3rd Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians.

 

On September 11th, the candidates of Group A in piano and violin will perform in their 1st round, and the Board of Juries will announce the candidates to participate the 2nd Round in the evening. Stay tuned!
