As a leading violinist representing Korea, he is highly respected for his versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, educator and music director. He was graduated from Seoul National University, and the Staatlische Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg under the guidance of Prof.Brandis and Prof.Rostal in Köln. He was appointed as a concertmaster of the Korean Philharmonic Orchestra, the KBS Symphony Orchestra and Dean of the College of Seoul National University,both as a sololist and music director of Korean Chamber Orchestra, he has appeared in over 600 concerts worldwide such as Rheingau Festival, Beethoven Easter Festival, Naantali Festival, Gerge Enescu Festival, etc. He was awarded‘Una vita per la Musica’ and ‘Merit of Culture from the Republic of Poland’ from the President of Italy and the Polish government respectively.

 

He has been a member of the jury in numerous international competitions such like Wieniawski & Tchaikovsky for young musicians, Sendai, Leopold-Mozart, China International competition, Seoul International Music Concour, Spohr International Competition and Queen Elizabeth International Competition.Currently he is an emeritus professor at Seoul National University, a member of the National Academy of Arts of Korea, and is contributing as a music director ofKorean Chamber Orchestra, Isang-Yun Ensemble and Artistic Director of Seoul International Music Festival.
