JIANG Chen

Jiang Chen is Professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, master’s tutor and director of the piano department.

At the age of 7, she won the first prize in the first Shanghai Children’s Piano Competition. At 11, she cooperated with the famous conductor Huang Yijun and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and successfully performed in the concert, recording the album.

In 1992, she graduated from Music Middle School Affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and was admitted to Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Dance de Paris with the first place in her major. After that, she has obtained four master’s degrees in piano, chamber music, art songs and collaborative piano. In 1998, she received a diploma equivalent to a doctoral degree at the Higher School of Music in Geneva. Chen has also studied with famous Chinese and foreign piano professors such as Zheng Shuxing, Yang Yanru, Wang Jianzhong, Pascal Devoyon, and Dominique Merlet.

Jiang Chen has won three international competitions. She has worked with the Swiss National Symphony Orchestra, the French Metz Symphony Orchestra, the French Montbeliard Symphony Orchestra, the Polish National Chamber Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shanghai Radio Symphony Orchestra. Shanghai Conservatory of Music Youth Symphony Orchestra, Macau Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Small Symphony Orchestra and Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, with several solo albums and chamber music being recorded.

From September 2000 to September 2001, Jiang Chen held tours of solo performance in 16 cities in China. Over the past 10 years, more than 30 of Chen’s students have won awards in major international and domestic competitions. She often publishes articles in important domestic publications, gives master classes and lectures in various places, and has joined the jury for domestic and international piano competitions. In 2002, she won the highest award in the “Shanghai Spring” International Art Festival. In 2003, she won the “Shanghai Outstanding Young Teacher Award”. In 2005, she was selected for the “Pujiang Talent Program”. In 2008, she won the “Henry Fok National Outstanding Young Teacher Award”, in 2015 she was awarded the “March 8th Red Banner” outstanding woman pacemaker of the Shanghai Education System. Since January 2018, she has served as the deputy to 15th Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress.
